Finally, an update...

Sorry it has taken me so long to update our blog. You know, even though newborns tend to just eat, sleep, and poop they keep you really really busy! The past 8 days have flown by!

Well, overall Lorali has been an absolutely wonderful baby. She has been eating very well and has been a very consolable baby. We have had a couple long nights, but all in all we can't complain. We went to the pediatrician this past Monday for her first official visit. When she was born she was 6 pounds 15 ounces and when we left the hospital she was 6 pounds 9 ounces. By the time we went to the pediatrician on Monday (she was 5 days old) she was already back up to 6 pounds 14 ounces!!! We go back next Monday so she can have her weight checked, but she definitely seems to be growing!!!

My mom was able to be here with us from the time she was born until earlier this afternoon. It was awesome having her here with us. She was really really helpful, especially since she just did all this with my little sister 3 years ago.

As for the labor and delivery part... I couldn't have asked for anything better. We got to the hospital Wednesday morning at 6:30 and by 7:30 they had started my pitocin and my doctor had come and broken my water. When she broke my water I was still dilated about 2 cm and effaced about 60%. Once they started my pitocin my contractions started coming every 2-3 minutes. At first they weren't bad at all, just felt a little crampy, but they certainly got more intense over time. Around 10:30 I got moved into my own labor/delivery/recovery room (we had to wait for someone to leave before we could get into it because they had several women go into labor the night before). My doctor came back around noon to check me again and I was about 3 cm and 80% effaced, so at this point it was slow progress, but my doctor was very pleased about it. Also, at this point the contractions were not fun anymore so I ended up getting my epidural around 12:30. By one o'clock my nurse checked me and I was already 4-5 cm and completely effaced! Around 3:00 I told my nurse that I was starting to feel some pressure when I had contractions. She checked me and I was already at 8cm and Lorali had moved into the 0 station position. I was really surprised at how quickly I was progressing!!! Imagine my surprise when just an hour later my nurse told me I was fully dilated and it was time to start pushing!!! I started pushing around 4:20 and delivered Lorali at 5:00pm on the dot. Will and my mom were with me in the delivery room while Will's mom and my grandparents waited in the waiting room. The entire experience was absolutely magical and I would not change a thing about it!

Our time in the hospital was wonderful. The nursing staff was great and the food was actually pretty good! However, by Friday morning we were ready to get out of there and bring our little girl home.

Like I said earlier, it was really great having my mom here for the past week, but I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful Will has been! I always knew that Will would be a fantastic dad, and he has always been an awesome husband, but I had not expected him to be as phenomenal as he has been. He has taken care of everything and catered to my needs every step of the way. Before this experience I did not think I could love him any more than I already did, but I am more in love with him now than ever before. He has been so incredble and supportive and encouraging. I could not have asked for a better partner throughout everything. Not to mention how great he is with Lorali. When I see him hold her and look at her and love her it makes me feel so lucky and happy and grateful that God gave us such a blessing.

Well, I will try to do better about updating or blog. Hopefully as the days go by our lives will settle down a little bit.

Until next time...
